How to Become a Christian

You have searched “How to Become a Christian”–and it is no accident that you are here. Jesus Christ has orchestrated all the events in your life leading you up to this point. He loves you, He knows everything there is to know about you, and He wants to be with you throughout all eternity. There is no greater Love than this. So how do you take the step of becoming a Christian?

How to Become a Christian

The first thing to know is that you do not become a Christian by joining a church or a religious organization. Becoming a Christian is a saving relationship to God our Father and Creator through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. It is knowing Him, or to put it more accurately: being known by Him. Just as a father knows and loves his children, so does the God of the Universe know and love you. The question remains: what must you do to enter into this loving, saving relationship with the God of Heaven?

Confess that You are a Sinner

First, we must understand and confess in our hearts that we have gone astray and have sinned against not only our fellow man, but more importantly, against our Creator, God. The Bible teaches: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). It is the job of the Holy Spirit to convict you of your sin. We, as humans, have been born into sin through the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve. And as such, a Savior (Jesus) had to die for sin on our behalf, and become our substitution–so that we may live.

If you know that you are not perfect and have sin in your life, simply confess it now before God and tell Him that you know you are a sinner and are in need of His help.

Ask Jesus to Save You

It’s really as simple as that. Unlike false religions which want you to go through a thousand steps before being saved or “confirmed”, the Lord Jesus Christ just asks that you confess your need for Him and submit your life to Him. It is not a set of rules that we follow, but we give our lives to him wholly and completely.

The Bible says: “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Commit to Jesus and He will commit to you. This does not mean that you simply mouth the words; but that you turn your life over to Him forever.

Being Born Again

The Bible teaches that once we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, that we are “born again” (John 3:3).

If you have confessed your sins, accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, your sins are forgiven, and you are truly born again! There is no ritual, no classes, no confirmation, but just a direct heart to heart with God your Savior!
