The Catcher – John 14:3
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. New International Version” (John 14:3, NIV).
Watching the trapeze artists at the circus, it is easy to get caught up in the whirling and twirling of the performers who leap from swing to swing, making the whole enterprise look as effortless as walking. Their flight is exhilarating, and we are amazed by their agility and strength. It is so easy to overlook that part of the team that doesn’t move, the acrobats who wait, hanging from another bar, to do the catching, yet without their skill their would be no act. The catcher guarantees a safe landing, and the flier must trust this person, with their life.
God is like the catcher. We go through life, bouncing along, and when we get to the end of it, God is there, ready for us, reaching out to gather us to himself, to His home in heaven, which will be our home.
Jesus promised that he was going to prepare a place for us, in His Father’s house. His gentle admonition was that we “do not let our hearts be troubled, trust in God, trust also in me.” He has gone to prepare a safe landing for us, because He loves us. And all we have to do is trust Him, and ask to belong to Him.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you for your promise to prepare a place for me in heaven. Thank you that you give us a safe landing place. Amen.”
