The Word of God Alive! – Romans 1:16 Devotional

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16, ESV).

How true this is; God’s word is not just letters on a page, it is alive! It gives us life, and teaches us how to live for him. Everyday there are trials and difficulties that arise, however, God is faithful to reveal himself “…from faith to faith…” because “…the righteous shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17 ESV). Sometimes it takes an act of faith to step out and do what you know you ought. There are millions of people that lack Christ and need him in their lives and don’t even know it. That is why we are called to preach his word (Matthew 28:19, 20). Because “…how are they to call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14 ESV).

If we do not go, they do not hear, and cannot be saved. God is omnipotent and can do all things, but he won’t force us to choose him and he wont force us to do what’s right. We have to make that choice. He has chosen to use us to take his word to all nations, and if we don’t go then they don’t have the opportunity to hear and their blood is on our hands. (see Ezekiel 33:1-11) This truth seems harsh, but really it is born out of a deep love, God’s love for his creation. You see God loved you so much that he “…gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16 ESV). It is a free gift to us, the only thing God asks us to do in return is to tell others about him.

We have the prayers of many saints helping us along on this journey of ministering God’s word to people. God has given us the tools and the ability within to do this. We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and he did not make a mistake in choosing you. He saw something inside of you that no one else did or does and has created you for this very purpose. Be the child of God he has made you to be and step forth with his word and the Love of God that dwells in you to be his hands and feet. God is with you always (Matthew 28:20).
