Trouble the Waters

Several weeks before the 8.9 earthquake in Japan (March 11,2011), God was stirring His word in my spirit. He spoke to me, and said, “Comfort My people, I am about to trouble the waters”. I then heard in my spirit that an earthquake was going to hit, that it would be sudden, and without warning. Living in California, I was naturally concerned that this earthquake would affect us. But God told me not to fear. He led me to Psalm 91, which as some of you know is a great psalm of God’s supernatural favor and protection, and should be a stronghold to any Christian household who loves and honors the One True God!

Psalm 91 contains such valuable verses as, “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler” (4) and “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked” (7-8).

I knew then that I and my household were safe. As the weeks passed, the words, ‘Trouble the Waters’ returned to my spirit over and over as I meditated on what God had spoken. Yet, the night before the Japan quake and tsunami, as I lay in bed on March 10, I felt particularly concerned about the words God had spoken and a slight fear crept into my very being, and I prayed for God to reveal to me more of what He had spoken. I also prayed for protection, and God led me to Psalm 46:

GOD is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling (emphasis added, 1-3).

There were the words He had spoken! He really had spoken to me! I had not misheard (I am always testing myself when I hear God, to be sure I understand clearly what He speaks). So I prayed for God to reveal to me more details–what I could do to prepare, if we needed to go out of town on a particular day, if my children would be protected. And as I prayed, God said, with kindness, but with finality: “I have spoken”. In other words, there is nothing more to be said, because now I was asking Him questions in the flesh, rather than in the Spirit.

“What do you mean, ‘you have spoken’, Lord? What’s going to happen?” I continued. But no further answer came. Except a sweet sleep, full of  peace, overcame my spirit, and I slept that night. “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Psalm 4:8)

I awoke the next morning to my wife asking, “Did you know there was a major earthquake in Japan? That a tsunami is on its way through the pacific?”

There was God’s Word confirmed the very next day! The waters had been troubled, and His final word to me on the subject had been settled. “I have spoken”. He had told me through Psalm 46: “Even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling” — and it had come to pass.

I firmly believe that this was a warning to the nations!

I do not know if there is more to come, but I am praying in the Spirit for God to open blind eyes, for people to repent and change of their worldly ways and turn to Him. Even Christians are living for themselves and have put aside God’s holy work of preaching the Gospel in favor of creating wealth and careers for themselves, when our real work is the preaching of the Gospel!

Paul mended tents as his worldly job, so that he could support himself to preach the Gospel. It seems that today Christians have turned tent-making into their main goal and relegated the preaching of the Gospel to second or third place! We have reversed our priorities and we wonder why we are in financial famine! Why the nations are being struck with natural disaster after natural disaster! Many don’t even believe in the fundamentals of the Gospel anymore, such as Jesus being the Only Way to God!

Yet God told me to comfort His people, because He is merciful and full of love!

I am praying for God to reveal to us what He has planned–and, as His first words to me were, “Comfort My people”, I am praying that God’s people know that they are protected in every situation! You must not fear, but call on the name of the Most High God in every circumstance!

Turn to psalm 91, turn to psalm 46, read your Bibles, pray in the Spirit, ask God to reveal to you what He is doing today in the nations. For this is only the beginning of God’s outpouring! Did you think the nations could go on forever spurning His holy name? This is a wicked world we live in. Corporations, Money, Chemicals in our children’s food, God’s people profaning themselves with the wares of the world, the gluttony of gadgets and technology. It is time for God’s people to bet set aside, to be made holy, for an assembly of the faithful to call on the name of God! I, for one, call on the name of the Lord of Hosts, Yaweh Sabaoth; I will help build the House of Jehovah, and live among a people who serve God day and night!

The weeks leading up to this event, the only other word that reverberated deeply in my spirit, was, “It’s going nuclear”–and we have already seen this beginning to occur in Japan. We can only pray that God will have mercy–that His Body may be raptured and protected, that we may not taste death, but say to pestilence and death, “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55).
